Let us subdue the incurable diseases regardless of national borders.
It is believed that about 90% of exrernal information is registered by our eyes. Diseases, such as Behçet’s diseases, Sarcoidosis, and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease cause systemic ocular inflammation.Ocular inflammation, which is called “uveitis”, sometimes influences patients' vision and occasionally induces blindness. It is strongly expected that the earlier the etiologies are known, the better drugs and treatments can be developed to deal with each ocular inflammatory disease.
Let us face these diseases together.
In May of 2000, the first international convention for patients with Behçet’s disease (Silk Road disease) was held in Hayama, Kanagawa, Japan.
316 patients from 18 countries shared ardent stories about their illness and studies of their diseases. Social welfare problems and ideal ways to organize as patients were also discussed. Every one of us was reminded that these diseases know no borders. As a patient and a family member, I helped to establish this NPO to support the social enlightening activities, treatments, and research of ocular inflammatory diseases. I hope that the power of every individual becomes the light of the great hope.
