Danzig, who topped the general sires list from 1991-93, was euthanized Jan. 3 at the Hancock family's Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky., because of the infirmities of old age.

Danzig became the first stallion since Claiborne's Bold Ruler in the 1960s to head the sires list three consecutive years. In fact, in the last 100 years, only Broomstick and Bull Lea led for as many as three straight seasons. Danzig is represented by 188 stakes winners--tops among North American stallions--and ranks among the leaders by number of Breeders' Cup winners.
Danzig は脚が弱かった為、競走成績はたった3戦（結果は3勝。着差合計は21-3/4馬身）のみで、1981年から種牡馬生活をスタートした。そして、初年度産駒の Chief's Crown がBC Juvenile (G1)を、 Contredance がArlington Washington Lassie S (G1)を、 Stephan's Odyssey がHollywood Futurity (G1)を勝つ活躍をし、81年には2万ドルだった種付け料が85年には25万ドルにまで跳ね上がった。また、91年から93年には3年連続でリーディングサイヤーとなった。3年以上連続でリーディングになった種牡馬は Bold Ruler （63〜69年）以来のことで、ここ100年では他に Broomstick 、 Bull Lea しか居ない。ステークスウィナーは188頭で Danehill 、 Sadler’s Wells に次ぐ3番目。Gレース勝ち馬は107頭。産駒の獲得賞金額は1億100万ドルにもなる。

Mike Pegram's homebred Pussycat Doll emulated her dam Hookedonthefeelin Saturday when she demolished a strong field in the $250,000 La Brea (gr. I) for 3-year-old fillies on a sloppy Santa Anita track.
La Brea S（総賞金25万ドル、1着賞金15万ドル）は Pussycat Doll 。 My Miss Storm Cat が2F21秒33、4F43秒34のペースで馬群を引っ張り、 Pussycat Doll はそれからかなり離れた7、8番手で追走。 Pussycat Doll は4コーナーにかかるとどんどん上がっていき、直線入り口までに4頭を交わして直線へ。 Pussycat Doll は直線で先頭に立った Leave Me Alone を外から交わして突き放し、5-3/4馬身差をつけて母仔制覇。勝ち時計は1分21秒36。
